In the beginning of 1970' the unusual
museum has appeared in Odessa. It has received the name "
Old Odessa " and was placed in the Watchtower of the
old destroyed fortress located in Shevchenko park.

Later this museum settled down
in other parts of city but there was constant its main purpose
and task - by means of ancient postcards, engravings and documents
to tell about Odessa' history , remarkable monuments of its
architecture and certainly about people which brought the
glory and popularity to city.

The organizer and the director
of this museum became the well-known Odessa' regional specialist
and collector Rudolf Mikhailovich Tsiporkis. He was hereby
person of encyclopaedic knowledge in questions of Odessa'
history. His collection of ancient postcards was totaled more
than 1,5 thousand pieces. Rudolf Mikhailovich has lived long
and interesting life and has died in 1999 in the age of 90
years old.

Appreciating the memory of remarkable
odessit and also continuing the business begun by him The
Odessa Numismatics Museum in 1999 has organized the exposition
of the ancient postcards which have received the name Gallery
" Old Odessa ".

In this Gallery exposed their collections such known regional
specialists and collectors as A. Drozdovskij , V. Shishov,
G. Makandarov and others. On the basis of these materials
many TV films devoted to Odessa were made.
